National Vice Commander Ben Headen returned to Colorado last week. At the request of Department Commander Mike Crow and National Executive Committeeman Tom Florez, I arranged an American Legion site visit to the Northern Colorado VA Clinic in Loveland. Thanks to Cheyenne VA Director Paul Roberts, who worked diligently to expedite the 30-day VA Central Office vetting requirement for external visitors, the visit was completed successfully. NVC Headen and the Legion team were highly impressed by the clinic, its staff, and its operations. Past Department Commander Jim Gates, who is also a patient there, joined us. Director Roberts personally welcomed us and led the tour. We learned about the clinic’s process of bringing patients into an initial exam room and then directing them to the next appropriate stage of care, an innovative approach within VA operations. We also toured the physical therapy, dental, and imaging departments. The visit concluded with a leadership meeting led by Director Roberts that included primary care and mental health specialists, along with clinic leadership led by Chief of Staff Dr. David Sprunger. Our Northern Colorado veterans who are enrolled in the Cheyenne VA system and receive care at the Northern Colorado VA Clinic in Loveland have much to appreciate.
